I hope your week is off to a great start!
You know, I was doing a lot of thinking over the weekend, and I actually thought about you.
Let me back up…
See, last week, we spent 4 nights away from home on the beach in Longboat Key, a beautiful little town on Florida’s Gulf coast.
It was an awesome, although quick, getaway — sort of “one last hurrah” for the summer before the kids went back to school.
It was an amazing time for the whole family…
But there was something else that happened this weekend once we were back home that hit me like a ton of bricks and made me think about you and your journey as a trader.
See, over the weekend, my wife was working with our oldest daughter on some back-to-school things…
Which gave me and our youngest girl a rare chance at some one-on-one time.
Now, our family is tight, and we love spending time together.
I mean, that trip we just took to Longboat Key was incredible.
We did some offshore fishing, and man, those things were biting from the second we cast our lines.
Another day we rented a pontoon boat, and we probably put 30 miles on it round-trip by the day’s end.
At one point, we were cruising on the pontoon boat, and all of a sudden we were just surrounded by dolphins.
It was so cool — they were actually touching the boat, and my oldest girl came within inches of touching one!
It was a truly special time.
Anyhow, as much as we love spending time together as a family, it’s also really special whenever my wife and I are able to split off into pairs with the girls for some quality one-on-one time.
I mean, it’s really one of those things that we always say we need to do more of…
But that we don’t actually follow through on as much as we would like to.
So when the opportunity arose this weekend for me and my youngest to have a day together while the other two were preoccupied, I jumped on it.
We decided to go on a kayaking adventure…
And I gotta tell you, it was awesome.
And as I was reflecting on it later that evening, I was reminded how important it is to hold ourselves accountable…
And make sure we’re actually doing those things we always say we need to do.
Now, if you have kids, then you know how each year seems to pass by quicker than the last.
Watching children grow up is one of the starkest reminders of how truly short our time here is…
And that the more we put things off until another day…
The more likely it is that that day will never come.
Then, all of a sudden, your kids are grown…
And your chance to spend that quality time… to strengthen that precious bond… is gone forever.
But you want to know something?
It’s the same way with finances.
So many people spend their early working years thinking, “I know I should start investing toward my future right now…
But I’ll start doing that next year!”
Then the next year comes and it’s the same story…
And eventually, they’re staring down the barrel of retirement wondering how it snuck up on them.
Listen, the reality is that every single day that passes is one that you’ll never get back again…
And every day that you wait to take decisive action toward achieving financial freedom is one less day you’ll have to enjoy that freedom once you’ve obtained it.
