The weather’s been beautiful here in Florida lately, and I’ve been getting a lot of work done outside.
Pressure washing…
Landscaping…
Minor repairs here and there…
You know, a lot of mindless manual labor.
To be perfectly honest though, I’ve actually found myself enjoying the work.
For one, it’s always nice to be outside in the springtime before the oppressive summer heat kicks in.
But it’s also been a great chance to reflect on things…
And all this working with my hands has had me thinking about the way my life could have been.
See, I didn’t always make my living by trading.
In fact, in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, I was a professional wrench turner.
Like a lot of people, college just wasn’t an option for me.
So after graduating high school, I took a job as a mechanic in a small local auto shop.
It wasn’t a bad gig, and I was able to learn a lot in a relatively short period of time.
But I was the low man on the totem pole, which meant that when the economy took a downturn…
I was the first one on the chopping block.
After getting laid off, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do…
Of course, this was before I was married and long before I had kids to feed.
And while I was never scared of getting my hands dirty or working long, grueling hours, I knew that what I was doing simply wasn’t sustainable for the long-term…
And wouldn’t provide the kind of life I wanted for my future family.
I knew I had to make a change.
As fate would have it, I stumbled upon an opportunity when I met a man who was a forex trader.
Now, at this time I knew absolutely nothing about the markets, forex, or anything else to do with trading.
But as I listened to this man explain to me what he did and how it worked…
It just made sense.
In fact, the more he told me about trading and the potential money to be made in the markets, the more excited I became about the possibilities.
As it turned out, this man put me in touch with a coach who was offering a forex training course that cost a cool $5,500 to attend.
Now, here I was, living hand to mouth and barely scratching out rent for the trailer I was living in…
And the ticket to my potential way out was going to cost me more money than I’d ever held at one time.
Of course, I also knew that there are no guarantees in life…
And that even if I were to come up with the money, I’d be taking a sizable risk by spending it all on this trading course.
But we’ve all heard the old saying…
No risk, no reward.
I decided then and there that I’d rather take that risk and fail…
Than simply resign myself to the life I’d been living.
That’s when I became a “wrench-turner for hire”…
Scrounging up work wherever I could to raise the money I needed not just for the course, but also to support myself for six months while I learned to trade.
I never knew from one day to the next where my work would take me…
One day, I could be fixing a boat engine at the marina…
And the next day I’d be out in a field, literally miles from nowhere, working on a broken-down crane or excavator.
I’m telling you, I busted my butt on every job I could find…
And in three months’ time, I’d raised more money than I’d made the entire previous year.
I invested my $5,500 into the course, and went from 16 hours a day in the field to 16 hours a day trading.
… And within a few years’ time, I was a millionaire.
Now, there was a lot that happened in those few years that I don’t have time to get into here.
But the point is that it all started with that first step…
And a calculated risk on a concept that was fundamentally sound.
Now maybe you’ve already seen our class on following the moves of insider traders.
If so, you’ve got to admit… this strategy makes perfect sense.
